Father's day, finally

I haven't shared about Father's day yet!
Connor and Maggie made Daddy jars that were decorated just for him. Then Maggie filled up her jar with ice coffee for daddy and Connor filled his up with trail mix.

After the hard work of making the masterpieces for Daddy they went outside and played in the hose and dirt!
I got them nicely cleaned up and then they gave Daddy the gifts that they had for him. Katelyn had made him a fishing pole with an attached fish that told daddy that he was the perfect catch.

Chris loved all the gifts that the kids worked so hard on and gave to him.

He is the best daddy and deserved this day just for him. Although he cooked dinner even though I tried to convince him that he should just relax.

Justsoyaknow...
Katelyn was around, well some, today. She just didn't seem to make it in any of the pictures, I better do better with that!!!

A summer kick-off

Last weekend we went to a summer celebration that a few local businesses sponsored. Honestly I thought it would be a bit cheesey since it was free. The flier that came home from school said balloon animals, face painting, food, music, and games. All FREE!
Since I love that word I decided to take the kids and check it out. Katelyn and Connor thought it would be a bit boring so I had to basically force them to go.
I am so glad I did! They were so glad I did! It was great!

The clown doing the balloon animals was AMAZING with her creations! I couldn't believe the things she was creating out of balloons. Katelyn and Connor both got frogs, of course and Maggie got a poodle looking dog.
The girls both had their faces painted and I was blown away with the talent that the two women had!

Ben just hung out watching his sisters and brother playing games and all the other fun stuff. He was still not feeling too well from his surgery so he was pretty content in the stroller which is not like him at all.
It cracked me up to watch him "hanging out" with his foot up!

They also had free food so we all had lunch there. Hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and cookies. Not overly healthy but fun.

And this is the reaction I got from Katelyn when we got home and found out that we had friends coming over to spend the afternoon at the pool and then have dinner with!
It was a great kick-off to summer kind of day!

Katelyn's first sleep-over

If you are wondering why Katelyn has such a big smile on her face while talking on the phone I will tell you....She had her best friend sleep over for the very first time! She has never had any friends sleep over! You should have seen the look of excitement and shock when I asked her if she wanted to have Ryley sleep over.

The girls had a great time and did so well that I won't be so hesitant to have sleep-overs again. They slept on an air mattress in the playroom which worked out great.

I'm not sure what is up with the face she is making at me????

The only down-fall was a very jealous brother and sister but their time will come. Eventually!

A kindergarten graduate!

Last week Connor graduated from kindergarten! It just blows me away! I am going to miss him so much in the fall when he goes to school ALL DAY!

The whole class put on a show of songs and poems that they had worked so hard to learn. The back drop was so simple and yet absolutely beautiful!

I was so proud of Connor as he participated in the whole show and was just full of confidence. This is really something new for Connor. He used to be so shy and withdrawn in this type of situation.

And when his wonderful teacher presented him with his kindergarten diploma he went right up with his head held so high.

It was such an amazing year full of growth and learning for Connor.

The shirts that the kids wore really summed it up, he "shined"! The back of the shirt was a self portrait of each of the kids that they had drawn themselves. It is a great shirt!

Connor was excited to have Ben there and enjoyed showing his little brother the ins-and-outs of kindergarten.
What a great time we had watching Connor graduate from kindergarten. We are so proud of him!

A messy eater, err, non-eater...

I can be regularly heard saying....
"For a baby who doesn't eat, you sure make a mess with your food!"

But I have to be careful....

Because apparently it hurt his feelings when I said it this time as he put his hands over his eyes and pretended to be sad...
Or maybe it was because I took the container of jello away from him that he some how reached when I left the room for a second...

my little fish

Swim lessons are over for the season...

But do not fear...

Our fish will have lots of time in the water,

To practice everything they have learned!

I am AMAZED at the difference in Maggie and Connor from January when they started lessons to now!
You go Maggie and Connor, you are AMAZING little swimmers!

A cat in need!

This is what I found in my house the other day. No she is NOT ours! Yet she is begging to come in constantly and when the kids "accidentally" leave the door open a little too long she makes her way in. And since Maggie fed her a piece of chicken she really won't go away.

I actually feel badly for her. She is a sweet cat that lives down the street from us. She is pregnant with her second set of kittens in just a few months. Apparently the family that owns her doesn't believe in fixing their outside cat. Or is just too careless and lazy to do it!
And when she had her last litter about three months or so ago they kept one of the kittens. Now that the mommy is pregnant she is not being nice to her kitten so the family is no longer allowing her into the house.

She is such a love and deserves a home with a loving family. However, we can not be that family because of Ben's allergies.
Although I am pretty sure he wass thinking he may catch her in the net that he was carrying around.

I am not sure what to do about this situation. She is such a good kitty, well other then the fact that she tore up our rug when she snuck into the house, and deserves so much more. For right now I guess we will just love on her some but we will NOT be giving her any more chicken!
Anyone want to give her a loving home???

changes in our yard

The kids are enjoying all the changes in our yard...

From the pile of sand that was dumped in the middle of the lawn...
And the pile of dirt that is in our back yard...

To the big hole that has since been filled in on the side of our yard.
Our yard is a MESS! Well, that's what it looks like to me and Chris, but in the eyes of our four young monkeys, it is wonderful!

Ben's surgery

Last Sunday, on June 13th, Chris, Ben and I headed up to the Children's hospital. Ben's surgery and tests were at 6:30am on Monday and since we live two hours away we decided to go up the night before.
Ben did really well on the ride up considering he didn't sleep a wink. We checked into the hotel room and then ordered Mexican food take-out from the restaurant next door. The food wasn't overly great but it was dinner.
Ben had a blast running around the room and wanted to go in and out of the pack and play that I had set up for him to sleep in. Which, by the way, was the only time Ben wanted to be in there!

After dinner we headed down to the pool. I decided to hang out and just take pictures of Daddy and his babe hanging out in the very COLD pool.
They didn't last too long but that was ok since it was getting pretty late.

The night was ROUGH to say the least. None of us got much sleep and when Ben vomited at midnight I panicked that he was getting sick. We think it was that he was just over-tired and so upset because it didn't happen again.
We were up and checked out of the hotel very early to get over to the hospital.
Once Ben was checked in and changed into his purple hospital jammies we spent some time in the kids playroom while we waited to talk to all the doctors that would be with Ben during his surgery and tests.
It is such a surreal feeling. Being there, watching him play and knowing that he didn't have a single clue about what was about to happen.

And then it was time. Daddy got gowned up and carried my baby boy off with his "bluey" and the spoon that he wouldn't give up from the playroom.....

I stood there, in the hallway, with plenty of people walking by but feeling so all alone. Waiting for Chris to come back. It is an awful place to be. Not the hospital, it was a fabulous place, but standing there having just kissed your baby and sent him off. Praying that he will be fine. Praying that the doctors, surgeons, and nurses are on their "A" game. Praying for patience and calmness while waiting.

Chris and I headed down to try and get something to eat. They gave us a beeper/buzzer/vibrator thing so we could be paged if they needed us. We tried to eat but everything that I tried just didn't taste good. Pretty sure that Chris was right and it was me, not the food. We finished eating and then went to buy deodorant in the little store since mine had been left at home and I needed it. While I was standing there waiting for the man to ring me up the buzzer went off!
I PANICKED! I ran off saying over my shoulder, "Sorry, I have to go!" We were so far away! A woman who worked there heard the beeper and saw my panic so she quickly told us a short cut. I was an absolute wreak because it was way too soon! Something had to have gone wrong! I was running down the halls trying to get there.
It turns out that the gastro doctor was done her part and wanted to fill us in on what went on while she was with Ben. The camera broke so she wasn't able to get any pictures but what she could see had "ridges", which is an indicator of EE, what they were looking for. She took a bunch of samples for biopsy and we would find out in 5-7 days the results. Ben did great during the tests and now the surgeon was working on his adenoids and the biopsy on his air way.
PHEW, that scared the crap out of me.
I sat down and Chris went to get us new drinks since he had tossed the ones we had when we were running upstairs, along with the deodorant that I left on the counter in the store. I waited. He came back with drinks. We waited. Mostly in silence. A weird kind of silence, a loud silence, if that makes any sense.
After a bit we were told that Ben was done and the surgeon would be out soon to talk to us. He came out just a minute later and let us know that everything went very smoothly. He said Ben's airway looked great and he would bet his house that the biopsy will come back fine. Yay! Ben had no problem being intubated and his stats were perfect the whole time!
PHEW, now I just wanted to get my baby in my arms.
A few minutes later we were told we could go back to where Ben was so we would be there when he woke up. He was sleeping peacefully for a little bit and pointed to the picture on the ceiling when he first woke up. For a couple of hours he was in and out of sleep, cranky, uncomfortable, and just feeling yucky.
They gave him an extra dose of pain meds in the IV before they took it out because he seemed to be really uncomfortable and had a case of the chills.

He was in his daddy's strong arms.... And, although he wasn't in a very happy mood, he was glad to be in Mommy and Daddy's arms again.
And, boy were we happy to have him there again!

It's was a long recovery, well longer then I expected for sure. He really took just about a week before he was back to himself again. We had a lot of cuddle time.
Again we waited. This time for the results of the biopsy. I did some research and was pretty sure that Ben was in fact dealing with an allergic reaction in his esophagus. I have been so scared and just consumed with worry.
Finally today, 9 days later, we got the call with the results. NEGATIVE! He does not have EE, the disease that they thought he had! THANK YOU GOD! This was WONDERFUL news! AMAZING news!
He does have acid reflux and that was present and obvious in the biopsies. We have figured that since he was a tiny baby and have been medicating him for it.
So the plan is to keep him on the reflux meds and the appetite enhancer. We will meet with Dr. R in a few weeks and decide where to go from here.
But tonight, I will sleep without the worry and fear that has been with me! Well, I will try to sleep, hopefully Ben will let me!
Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers throughout the last couple of weeks and more!

I have not fallen off the face of the earth! You know, just incase you were worried about that.
Our computer is sick and is at the doctor. It was supposed to be ready by today and when I called to see if it was ready I was told "it hasn`t even been touched yet." WHAT??? So I am doing this on my phone which is very sloooow and not easy!
I will fill everyone in on all the details later but for now I will just say that Ben`s surgery and tests went ok. He is having a very tough time bouncing back though. I am having a hard time waiting for the results.
I hope you all have a great weekend and I will be back when the computer gets home from the doctors!

Maggie's end of the year show

The other day Maggie had her end of the year show for school. She was, of course, a monkey in the show!

I can not believe the home made costumes that the other moms, or dads, made for their children! I wish I was so talented. However, since I am not, I am happy that we had a monkey costume at home that she could wear. They danced to the "Lion King" theme song.
She enjoyed the show but was VERY shy and wouldn't say a word when it was her turn. That's a HUGE difference from the Maggie we have at home but that's ok.

Ben hung out on Daddy's lap for the show and Katelyn and Connor sat up on the bleachers like big kids. You can see them in the back ground of the picture.

Maggie got an award for being the best playdough, mud, dirt pie maker!
She was so proud to show it to everyone!

I am so proud of her!

I am looking forward to having her home for the summer now but am so happy she has another year at her school, it is just the best school there is!
