Ears...

My babies have all had problems with their ears. That's just a fact. So, why would Ben be any different?

We went to the ENT this afternoon to check out the ear that the doctor was concerned about yesterday. We got some good news and some bad news...

The good news is that Ben doesn't have an ear infection and he doesn't have fluid in his ears either.

The bad news is that both of his ears have "negative pressure" in them. The doctor explained that this is basically what happens when you are coming down in an airplane. However, Ben was not coming down in an airplane...

So, this is what we will do. Nothing for now. It could mean that he is "brewing" an infection which would mean he will need the antibiotics. However, at the moment antibiotics would do nothing for the problem. Next week we go back to re-check the pressure. After the results of next week the following will happen...

If the pressure is gone and Ben didn't get the infection that the doctor thinks may be "brewing" then we head home happy as clams.

If the pressure is still there, we head into surgery and put tubes in his ears.

If the pressure is gone but there is an infection, we head into surgery and put tubes in his ears.

Do I want to put tubes in? No, it's surgery and he would have to be put under anaesthesia. However, we have been here before, a few times actually, so I know what to expect. With that being said, the waiting in the waiting room is always horrible for me.

Let's just pray that next week his ears will look great and there will be no pressure!

I mean, look at this ear, it is way to cute to have another infection!

Let me share the conversation I had with the audiologist who performed the test to check out the pressure in Ben's ear today...

Her: "He definitely doesn't have an infection so that is good. Really though, it is rare for a baby to have an ear infection."

Me: "He has already had two. Plus I have three other children that also had chronic ear infections, two of which had tubes put in because of them. One at 7 months then again at 2 years old and one at just under 4 months."

Her: "Really, wow. Do you breastfeed?"

Me: "Yep."

Her: "Ohhh, are they around second hand smoke?"

Me: "Noooo, never!"

Her: "Oh, that is unusual."

Me: "Yep."

Lucky us... I guess if that is the worse thing we are dealing with we are very lucky!
